About Willie Green
Willie Green is a spiritual musician and composer based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Originally hailing from LaPlace, Willie developed an interest in drums early in his childhood by playing gospel music in his dad’s church. It was there that his spiritual sensibility was born, and he has continued to infuse that spirituality into his performances and compositions ever since.
In 2011, Willie moved to New Orleans to attend Loyola University. During his college years, he was able to study with some of New Orleans’ premiere drummers, including jazz legends Herlin Riley and Johnny Vidacovich. In his junior year at Loyola, Willie became the drummer for Delfeayo Marsalis’ Uptown Jazz Orchestra.
Since he graduated in 2015, Willie has had the opportunity to play with New Orleans’ most promising up-and-comers and local legends alike, including Ellis Marsalis, Roderick Paulin, Gregory Agid, Betty Shirley, Michael Watson, Roger Lewis, and more.
He has played major festivals both at home and across the world, including the Manchester Jazz Festival in the UK, Charleston’s Wine and All That Jazz Festival, the Central PA Jazz Festival, French Quarter Festival, and New Orleans’ world-renowned Jazz Fest.
Willie Green leads his own group, the Willie Green Project, a collection of like-minded musicians with a mission to spread joy through their playing. Their debut album, “Love Will Find a Way”, was recorded at Esplanade studios in New Orleans, and will be released in September 2017.
Willie hopes to continue spreading his message of peace through his music, and hopes to play with as many musicians as possible throughout his career.
Willie is currently offering lessons to players of all levels in jazz, gospel, R&B, and funk styles. He is also able to help beginners learn the rudiments necessary to establish a technical foundation on the drums.
